Resilience and empathy are key protector factors in uncertainty and changing contexts, like the one we are living because of the pandemic, and war, especially in the emerging digitalized society.

In situation of vulnerability, it is important to make people more prepared to fight for their rights and stay social included.

The main objective of the Empathy project is to foster emotional literacy and resilience for people in distress. The objective will be achieved through a set of non-formal personalized learning modules and activities, made available to social professionals and adult educators so they can motivate and empower adults to develop personal, social and learning to learn competences and other essential social skills needed to be resilient, to cope and adapt to changes and uncertainties, and also increase adult adherence to learning processes.

The capacity building activities will be developed for the main target groups in the project, i.e. professional trainers and educational staff, working with the final beneficiaries, i.e. adult people in distress.

A set of methodologies, which include play-based learning, explorative, experiential and co-creative learning approaches will be developed together with contents designed in a modular way with clear learning outcomes.

The project will design a simplified online/hybrid training platform, together with guidelines and a training module for the trainers to become skilled facilitators to connect, engage and empower their learners.

A technical partner from Germany will be involved with a long-track record of downgrading and adjusting complex platforms to user-groups without any digital experiences and without skills to communicate and learn online.

It is important to develop and extend the skills of social professionals and adult educators in order to improve proximity, mentoring and counselling and motivation strategies that encourage adults, in situations of social exclusion, to develop their skills, in the context of various literacies. In view of the above, the sectoral priority of this project is framed within the scope of adult education (Improving the competences of educators and other adult educations staff).

The project addresses the horizontal priority - social inclusion. Organizations all over Europe are facing the social effects caused by the Covid pandemic that brought more individuals to face social exclusion. So, the importance of define strategies to face social crises and to empower people to be resilient through crises is mandatory in the actual European social context. The European Union prioritizes the social dimension in the process of recovering from the crisis caused by the pandemic COVID which, in addition to economic effects, has had multiple negative effects over: social interaction, family unity, mental health and social integration and participation.
